NEW MUSIC MONDAYS #12
It's been a pretty rough couple of weeks. I haven't posted a blog post since June 22nd and it's very fitting that the first one back would be a New Music Monday. There's nothing more therapeutic than a day at the beach and some great music. I spent a lot of time thinking and trying to find some new music to put my soul at ease. Here's some of my faves.
"Like a Wrecking Ball" Eric Church
Category: Most Likely to Turn Me Into a Sobbing Mess
I've been getting down to my southern roots a lot lately and this song came out of that. It's so good. Reminds me of old rock n' roll. Makes me an emotional mess.
"Harder to Lie" David Ramirez
Category: Nicest Sounding Sad Song
I liked this song immediately because I thought it was pretty, but after digging a little deeper, I'm a little disturbed by the message. Ultimately the guy in the song has fooled this girl into thinking he's a better person than he is, but now it's getting harder to lie to her. Still lying, just getting harder. WTH. Unfortunately I feel like this is something that plagues most relationships. Bummer, but true.
"Not That Simple" Mike Posner
Category: Too Close to Home
"Lush Life" Zara Larsson
Category: Summer Anthem
This is a great girls night, summer anthem. Jamming this with the windows down, driving out to watch the sunset will be my favorite.
"Sing It All Away" Walk Off the Earth
Category: Best Group Singing Song
Another fantastic summer anthem. I love the building up of the song at the end and love singing the group chanting parts at the top of my lungs! Such a fun song.
"Young and In Love" - Hunter Hayes
Category: Obligatory Love Song
I'm still a hopeless romantic at heart. Love me some good love songs.
"I Want You feat. Rumors" Elephante
Category: Dance Song of the Week
I always have to listen to a good dance song. Not that I've been to a club lately, but they should play this in the next club I'm at!
"Shots & Squats feat. Tham Sway" Vigiland
Category: Dumbest Song I've Heard This Week
Dumb and fun.
"(Lover) You Don't Treat Me No Good" Sonia Dada
Category: Oldie But A Goodie
This is an epic song. It had a serious response when it first came out in Australia like 2 decades ago, but has definitely bled over into American mainstream music too. My friend Abrye reminded me of it the night of Fourth of July. Since she's spent the last 5 years in Australia she hears it pretty frequently. Love her and this song.
"Fight Song" Rachel Platten
